Unlock your Bell (and non-Bell) Blackberry Bold 9000 and 9700


Unlocking your Blackberry Bold could not be easier.  Using the instructions in this short guide you be able to unlock your Blackberry Bold 9000  and 9700 for use with any compatible GSM carrier in Canada and around the world.

Let’s get started!

Before you begin we will assume that you have your unlock code for your Blackberry Bold 9000.  If you do not have the unlock code for your Bold you will not be able to unlock your phone using these instructions.  If you require an unlock code, you can purchase one from Cellarama for $10, please contact our customer service for details.

The first step is to determine which unlock steps will unlock your Bold.  You can find the steps to unlock Rogers and AT&T units, Bell units, and Telus units below.  You can quickly determine with steps to use by turning on your Blackberry Bold and seeing what carrier logo appears during the startup process.

Secondly, all unlocking steps will require you to have a SIM card inserted into the SIM card slot of your Bold.  Any SIM (activated or non-activated, by any carrier will do).

Thirdly the wireless radio must be turned off. To turn off the radio press the Blackberry button, “Manage Connections”, “turn all connections off”.

Instructions to unlock Rogers and AT&T Bold 9700, Bold 9000

  1. Go to settings.
  2. Go to options.
  3. Go to advanced options.
  4. Go to sim card.
  5. Type mepd.
  6. Type mep, then alt+2  (you will not see text appear on screen while typing).
  7. You will see “Enter Network MEP Code”, enter your unlock code then press in the trackball (trackpad) to confirm.  (caution, ensure the the code you are entering correct because after 10 incorrect entries your phone will no longer be able to be unlocked via this process)
  8. Your phone is now unlocked.

Instructions to unlock Bell Mobility Blackberry Bold 9700 & 9000

To unlock your Bell BlackBerry Bold for use on other carriers networks you will require 2 unlock codes (MEP and SP codes)

  1. Go to Settings menu
  2. Go to Options
  3. Go to Advanced options
  4. Select SIM card
  5. Type MEPD using your Blackberry keyboard (you will not see text appear on screen while typing).
  6. Type MEP then [ALT BUTTON] then [2] on your Blackberry keyboard (you will not see text appear on screen while typing).
  7. You will see “Enter Network MEP Code”. Enter the MEP Unlock Code  and press in the trackwheel (trackpad) to confirm.  (caution, ensure the the code you are entering correct because after 10 incorrect entries your phone will no longer be able to be unlocked via this process)
  8. You will see “CODE ACCEPTED” and the phone will return to the “Personalization” screen
  9. Type MEP [ALT BUTTON] 4 and you will be prompted to enter the Service Provider Code (SP Code)
  10. Enter the SP Code sent to you by us and press the trackwheel (trackpad)
  11. Your phone is now unlocked.

Instructions to unlock Telus Mobility Blackberry Bold 9700 & 9000

  1. Go to settings.
  2. Go to options.
  3. Go to advanced options.
  4. Go to sim card.
  5. Type mepd.
  6. Hold the ALT Key while typing in mep4  (you will not see text appear on screen while typing).
  7. You will see “Enter Network MEP Code”, then you type in the unlock code, press in the trackball (trackpad) to confirm. (caution, ensure the the code you are entering correct because after 10 incorrect entries your phone will no longer be able to be unlocked via this process)
  8. Your phone is now unlocked.

And you’re done. You’ve just unlocked your Blackberry Bold 9000.
