Guide to Buying a Refurbished Bell Mobility Cell Phone

Monday, May 11th, 2009

New cell phone handsets for Bell can be expensive and are often sold with 3-year long-term contracts to reduce the price.  With refurbished Bell cell phones you can experiment with models and get a much better deal, both in terms of money and styles, while avoiding long-term contracts. Bell Mobility often collects used phones and sends them to certified repair centers or back to the manufacturer to be refurbished.  The end result is not just a used phone, but one that has been thoroughly tested by professionals.

Do some research before purchasing a refurbished Bell Mobility cell phone to ensure you get the best deal.

Things to be kept in mind when purchasing a refurbished Bell handset:

Fully refurbished:

The Bell Mobility phones which have been fully refurbished appear like a new handset. These phones have been thoroughly checked, tested for their performance, reset to the factory settings, and their entire housing changed to give the phone a brand new look. Most often this process helps the phone to perform like a new one. Fully refurbished Bell cell phones are often sold with a new battery and accessories, which include chargers, ear pieces and so on.

Partially Refurbished:

Partially refurbished Bell cell phones can be interpreted in different ways.  A partially refurbished phone may have its housing changed, or may come with a factory reset, but should always undergo full testing.  Due to these factors partially refurbished Bell phones are not guaranteed to look like new, or they may have the previous user’s data still stored in them, but they should be fully functional.

In terms of price these phone are definitely cheaper than the fully refurbished ones. If they come with a new battery and new accessories, the price may also differ. So pay close attention to the details.

Warnings and precautions while purchasing a refurbished Bell Mobility cell phone:

•    Return policy: Ensure that the refurbished Bell Mobility cell is bought from a reputable company only and make sure that they have a return policy. This will ensure that if your cell does not work properly or isn’t compatible with the Bell Mobility network, you shouldn’t have any hassles returning the phone.

•    Check the warranty: Make sure that the warranty is at least two weeks, as my experience shows that if something is not right with your refurbished Bell Mobility cell phone, you will most likely find it within that time. Also make sure to take extra good care of your phone during this period, because if your phone stops working and it looks like it has been run over by a truck, chances are that the warranty will be void, based on the physical condition.

•    Previous contents: The phone must be thoroughly wiped clean of all the previous contents so that all the contacts, calendars, notes, or addresses are removed, as well as cookies and the cache is cleared if the phone had Internet access.

Finding great refurbished cell phones for Bell Mobility is not always an easy task, but by following tips laid out for you in this guide you’ll be talking up a storm on a new refurbished phone very soon.

A Practical Guide for Buying a Refurbished Bell Cell Phone

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

Some suggest that a refurbished Bell cell phone is like a used toothbrush. But the truth is that buying a refurbished Bell Mobility cell phone can be a wise move. It all depends on where the refurbished phone is purchased.

Most people get new cell phones every couple of years, while some upgrade even more frequently. A Bell cell phone, if not thrown away, is often returned to the manufacturer for refurbishing.

Also consider what is done with a cell phone when it is sent back within Bell Mobility’s specified 15 day/15 min warranty period that comes with new cell phones. These cell phones cannot be sold as new even if they were in the hands of a consumer for a mere couple of days.

If you are in the market to buy a refurbished Bell phone, make sure to follow the steps below and you will keep from getting a refurbished phone that has the quality of a used toothbrush.
When buying a refurbished phone consider the price. While you should never pay top dollar for a refurbished phone, you often get what you pay for. A deal too good to be true often is.

Unscrupulous dealers sell beaten used cell phones and claim them as refurbished hoping to trick consumers who haven’t read this guide. Beware – buying super cheap cell phones may seem frugal, but your opinion will quickly change if the cell phone stops working soon after you purchase it.

This brings in another good point: be sure to get a warranty from the seller. You get extended warranties for used cars; the same goes for refurbished Bell phones. If the seller doesn’t offer a warranty or refund program, forget it because there are many other sellers who do.

Another reason you should watch out for non-established sellers is that cell phones are often stolen and then sold as second-hand phones for a price that’s too good to be true. If you purchase a stolen phone and it has been reported stolen, Bell will not activate it and you’ve now got an expensive paper weight. It’s very difficult to get your money returned when you buy a stolen phone. Thieves don’t offer a refund.

Activating your refurbished Bell phone should be as easy as walking into a Bell World store and asking the rep to change phones, as long as you remember this point: when buying any Bell phone, (new, used, or refurbished), check to make sure that is was originally a Bell phone.

Some sellers of refurbished Bell phones actually are selling phones from Sprint™ or Verizon™ in the U.S. You can run into heaps of problems activating these types of phones, as Bell only activates phones that they purchased directly from the manufacturer.

Bell keeps track of every ESN, (electronic serial number), which are unique 11–18 digit identifying numbers. If a site is selling a refurbished Bell phone and claims it to be part of the Bell Mobility network, they should give you the ESN if they’re legit. You can then call Bell Mobility customer service at 1-800-677-0123 and they can look up the ESN to verify. You can then take your Bell cell phone into a Bell store for activation or you can do it online. If done in store there’s typically a programming fee that costs about $15 to $25.

Be aware of places that refer you to a strange number or claim that the phone is already activated. It may in fact be activated, just on some poor chap’s account.

There are plenty of online stores that offer refurbished phones. If you are interested in purchasing a refurbished Bell Mobility cell phone you should make sure the store selling the refurbished phone is certified through Bell Mobility. Following these guidelines will ensure that you get a quality phone at a great discounted price, a welcomed outcome for anyone on a budget.
