The Samsung Galaxy Tab with Android is coming soon to Bell Mobility

The Galaxy Tab, which is one of the most expected tablets to come out this year, will arrive at Bell, too. We do know that Samsung?s strategy is to make its Android smartphones and tablets as widely available as possible, so Bell, which is one of the biggest and best carriers in Canada, can’t be left out.

The pricing has not been available yet, although there have been some rumors that the unlocked tablet will cost from $800 to $1000, depending on the version. This seems pretty insane considering the Bell iPad sells for $500 and Galaxy Tab?s specs are not that much better. When you consider it?s been half a year since iPad launched, that hardware should be less expensive now than it was then.

Samsung?s main pricing strategy will probably be to focus on selling this tablet on contract on Bell’s network for an upfront price perhaps slightly bigger than a high-end smartphone. This would make it seem more affordable, although you should expect monthly prices for the data plans that are significantly bigger than what you get on high-end smartphones. If the tablet costs $800-$1000,then the subsidy would be pretty steep, and they need to recover those money somehow.

The Bell Mobility Galaxy Tab will come with the latest version of Android, which is Froyo, and it?s been optimized as much as possible by Samsung to be tablet-ready, although Google themselves said that Android 2.2 Froyo is not made for tablets. The good news is that Samsung has promised the next version of Android, Gingerbread, will come to Galaxy Tab in the form of an update. Google has also promised an UI overhaul of Android and I?m going to bet that this means Gingerbread will be a lot more suited for a tablet than Froyo was.

Other specs for the Galaxy Tab are:

  • 7? LCD display, 1024×600 resolution
  • Hummingbird 1 Ghz chip (same chip as in Galaxy S)
  • 512 RAM
  • 4000 mAh battery, 7h movie play
  • 16/32 GB interngal storage, with up to 32 GB extended through SD card
  • 3 MP camera on the back
  • 1.3 MP camera in front
  • Wi-fi b/g/n
  • Bluetooth 3.0
  • GPS
  • 3G
