Review of the Samsung A640 for Bell Mobility

Monday, May 18th, 2009

At first glance, the Samsung A640 flip phone is a classic black and bold phone. It has a sleek, slim design that will fit your palm and your pocket with ease. It displays the time and date in cool blue on its sleek, glossy exterior.

A closer look will tell you more: the features of this phone are as good as you can get.

The Samsung A640’s most appealing features—and some of the features most highly rated by users—are its crystal-clear voice quality and its speakerphones. These are firsts in a flip phone. In addition, the VGA camera in the A640 boasts a flash, digital zoom, a self-timer, and brightness control, all of which enable you to take good—even if not the best—pictures. And the A640 also comes with Bluetooth® wireless connectivity that enables you to connect with compatible PCs and hands-free systems.

The Samsung A640 flip phone gets its multimedia options right, too, with its ability to play videos and 3-D games. While you are speaking on the phone, you can run applications, as well.

Another appealing feature of the Samsung A640 is voice-activated dialling. This function works so well that you can blindly trust the A640 to automatically browse through your phonebook, select the number, and dial it for you at the very moment you are voicing the phone entry name or number. At times, voice-activated dialling performs even better than speed dialling.

The flip side of the Samsung A640 flip phone is that while you can watch your favourite videos, you cannot video-capture your favourite moments. Also, while the VGA camera takes good pictures, it does not come with an essential memory slot expansion.

In addition, a common complaint with the Samsung A640 has been its poor battery performance. The A640 must be charged on a daily basis. While the specifications guarantee a battery life of three hours, the A640 quickly runs out of battery life, even with basic calling activities, not to mention the use of applications and camera. While a portable car charger can help keep the battery charged, the short battery life is one area in which the A640 has not scored well.

And, overall, while the Samsung A640 offers the features of a high-end phone, such as Bluetooth connectivity, a VGA camera, and multimedia options, it does only a moderately good job on the quality of these features.

But despite these drawbacks, the Samsung A640 gets the basic phone function right: crystal clear voice communication. The voice clarity and voice quality of the A640 flip phone stand out as its best features. Because of its relatively low price and stylish looks, this phone has found favour primarily with younger users.

Most users agree: The Samsung A640 is worth the buck. Its stylish futuristic look and its high-end-phone features make it a worthwhile purchase.
We predict that the Samsung A640 is a phone you will enjoy using because it functions well and is a stylish phone you will enjoy showing off!

Sanyo 8300 Review for Bell Mobility

Friday, March 13th, 2009

A look at the Sanyo 8300 and you’ll know why this sleek, compact cell phone has been so popular. It has plenty to offer in looks and features so you won’t be let down if you choose the Sanyo 8300 from the Bell Mobility cell phone line up.

It’s not “just a cell phone,” it’s solid, small, sturdy, and still lightweight. Opening and closing is smooth and quiet. Quality is once again where the focus is, which is exactly why we are offering it at Cellarama. We only want to offer you the “best cell phones” out there.

It has a nice big screen that’s crystal clear, and easy to read. It’s a real treat getting an LCD screen this size in a phone that small. Your wallpaper on the inside is also seen on the outside adding a nice touch. This new larger screen is a terrific upgrade from previous models.

If you like selection in colors and hate ordering those add on face plates, you’ll like that this cell phone is available in plenty of different colors.

But it doesn’t do any good have great looks if you don’t have great reception to go with it. The reception on this Bell cell phone can only be described as Incredible!

The ring on this phone is nice and loud so you don’t have to worry about missing a call. It comes with ringtones and you can also download plenty from sites online, as it supports AAC and QCP downloadable ringers. Oh by the way the ring isn’t just loud the sound is terrific!

The earpiece on the Sanyo 8300 is excellent. You’ll never sound like you are talking through a tube. It’s always crisp and clear. The speakerphone also has excellent volume. The sound is impressive for a half duplex phone.

You should be very happy to learn that 8300 is also a 10-4 handset.  10-4 is an “all-in-one” communication tool that provides you with Walkie-Talkie + Cellular phone + Data services.  You can talk with up to 5 other 10-4 subscribers at the same time.
We need to mention the camera on this phone because is one of the best on the market. Night pictures are even doable because there’s a flash. You can have a little fun using the picture stamps. Turn the picture you took into a fireman, place a heart around your picture, or why not add a happy birthday border. It takes great pics and let’s you spruce them up a little.

The camcorder gives you up to 30 second clips. A nice feature but there is no expandable memory slot. A nice touch on a small compact Bell cell phone. In fact, it’s one of the most popular phones here at Cellarama. It’s easy to see why.

Add the excellent battery life that can be charged in about 30 minutes, and its ability to quickly connect to the web. This multimedia phone covers beginners to the most advanced users.

The bottom line is that the Sanyo 8300 is one of those phones that everyone likes. That’s why we’ve added it to the Cellarama cell phone line up. We certainly shouldn’t be surprised since Sanyo does a great job of developing phones that are rich in looks and features.

The Bell Sanyo 8300 has:

- LCD Display 1.8” TFT LCD; 65k colors with VGA 640×480
- Digital Zoom on Camera with Flash and Self Timer
- Multimedia streaming
- Speakerphone
- 10-4 Walkie-Talkie
- Voice -Activated Dialing
- Store Phone Book, e-mail addresses and web addresses
- Caller ID Capability
- Wireless Internet
- Total Wireless Downloadable Memory 2.0 MB
- Voice Memo Recorder
- Call History
- Ringer Melodies

The bottom line is the Sanyo 8300 is an attractive Bell cell phone with plenty of features to impress you, and is currently one of the more popular phones at Cellarama.com. You won’t be sorry with your choice. Sleek, compact, sturdy, with too many features to list, and priced to get noticed!

BlackBerry Curve Review for Bell Mobility

Friday, March 6th, 2009

When RIM introduced the BlackBerry Curve 8330 through Bell Mobility it filled the gap between business and consumer smartphones.  Like the BlackBerry Pearl, the Curve has features and capabilities for the diehard consumer as well as for modest business needs.  What’s next, are they going to bring out private jets for the rest of us too?  Talking on this CrackBerry is surely like flying in business class.

Style and Design:

Weighing in at 114g and sizing up at 107mm x 60mm x 16.1mm, the Curve provides for the perfect fit inside a jacket or sports coat.  Smaller than comparable business phones, it won’t weigh down the purse or pocket that carries it.

Its finish is sleek, black, and soft with accents on the QWERTY keyboard.  With the smaller phone size, the keys were scaled down a bit.  They’re not so small that it requires a bird’s beak to type but it may serve as a challenge for those with bigger fingers.  Typing does require some dexterity, more so for those who speed text.

The display shows off a crisp clear home page with a 25.4mm QVGA LCD screen with 320 x 240 pixels.  The font size is adjustable.  Backlighting automatically adjusts to the environment’s lighting levels but this feature can be shut off.  The backlighting time and density can also be adjusted.

The Curve 8330 keeps the infamous navigating trackball that’s so loved by CrackBerry fans.  If a person is new to the trackball world it does take some getting use to.  However, once you go track you never go back.

Camera:

The BlackBerry Curve has a 2.0 megapixel camera with 5x digital zoom, flash, and a self portrait mirror.  Users can choose from three resolutions:  1600 x 1200, 1024 x 768, and 640 x 480.  Included editing tools can be used to clean up pictures that may lack professional quality.  This camera does better in well-lit scenes than in darker environments despite the flash.  Transferring to a PC is a snap with a USB cable.

Internet:

The RIM browser on this CrackBerry supports both mobile and full HTML sites.  The curser is controlled by the trackball to navigate the page and control the zoom.  Mobile streaming complements the quality of the display and is available through providers like MobiTV, YouTube, XM radio and more.  More information can be found on  mobile.BlackBerry.com.

Messaging:

Through the BlackBerry Internet Solution, up to 10 personal and business email accounts can be integrated for sending and receiving real-time email messages.  The Curve is able to view attachments and BlackBerry prides itself on the availability of push delivery and mailbox synchronization with popular email brands.  Another nice little feature is that the address book of the Curve is only limited to the available memory. If you manage to keep your music files on a separate memory card, the size of your address book can be monstrous.

BlackBerry Messenger and Windows Messenger are the only two options available for Instant Messaging.  This is only useful if the majority of your contacts are using one of the two messaging services.  Yahoo users are sort of left in the dark.  No matter, Yahoo Chat is only filled with bots anyways.  Don’t most people use Facebook these days?  Bell Mobility offers a quick launch icon for Facebook as part of the Curve’s menus, as it does with many of its other phones.

Calling:

The Bell Mobility Network has maintained a decent reputation for high quality service and reception.  The BlackBerry Curve reinforces Bell’s reputation with sound control.  To counter any discrepancies, the bass and treble of the phone speakers can be adjusted to enhance the voice quality.  The talk-time is impressive and exceeds BlackBerry’s claimed 240 minutes.

Long Story Short:

The relatively modest price of this phone means we’ll see more corporate quality BlackBerries flying coach.  Email is more than sufficient for consumers who love their email.  It works well for small businesses or corporations who want to scale down the finances but keep BlackBerry’s business-friendly features. Internet access means any necessary information is at your fingertips.  This is a pocket PC for both the average guy/gal and for the businessman/woman.  A number of accessories can also be purchased through Bell Mobility.

LG Rumour Review for Bell Mobility

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

[caption id="attachment_21" align="alignleft" width="205" caption="LG Rumour for Bell Mobility"]LG Rumour for Bell Mobility[/caption]

Design:

This LG handset is particularly designed for those who are obsessed with messaging.  It is a slider, candybar phone with a full QWERTY keyboard.  I say “candybar” because it weighs 117g and has a height of 109mm, width of 51mm, and a depth of 17.8mm.  It’s by no means a flimsy or delicate phone.  LG built this solid phone to last.

The Rumour has a single two inch screen that displays 10 lines of text.  It also has 262K color 176×220 pixels of resolution and automatically switches to landscape mode when the QWERTY keyboard is slid out.  The screen display’s coloring and contrast is of moderate quality.

On the right spine is the jack for the 2.5mm headset and a MicroSD card slot that’s capable of holding up to 4GB of memory.  This equates to 4,000 songs.  The left spine has the camera and volume buttons.

Messaging:

What the Rumour does to messaging is what the bazooka does to hunting.  It’s a messaging power machine.  This is thanks to the Instant Messaging via Windows Live and mobile email in addition to standard picture, video, SMS, and text messaging.

The phone can store up to 260 messages in the inbox and 50 in the out with up to 140 characters per message.  Each text message can be sent to a total of 25 recipients.  The mobile email can be synchronized to a corporate email account using your contacts and the company’s directory.

Media, Battery, and Web Browser:

The LG Rumour does well as a MP3 player, also supporting MP4 and AAC, aw well as other music files.  It’s easy to transfer music files from your PC onto your handset with the help of a compatible USB cable.  It’s easy to download ringtones to your handset through Bell Mobility.

The web browser is able to “optimize” regular HTML sites so that they can be viewed on the small screen.  The speed isn’t great but suffices for simple viewing of news, weather, account information, ringtones and music downloading, and such.

The Li-Plymer, 950mAh battery will give you roughly 4 hours of talk time and 2 weeks at standby.

Camera and Battery:

The Rumour sports a modest 1.3 megapixel camera.  It will take decent pictures.  Three resolution options are available:  1280 x 960; 640 x 480; and 320 x 240.  To overcome the (relatively) low megapixels, the view mode, color tone, white balance, image enhancer, and brightness settings can be adjusted to make the pictures nicer.  If a picture of Canada’s pristine outdoors is taken with this phone, it will hold up rather nicely.

Audio resolution is 176 x 144 and video is128 x 96 pixels.  You can record videos from a mere 10 seconds to a whopping 2 hours with suitable video sync and a reasonable frame rate.

Overall Ruling:

Now this isn’t a smartphone and doesn’t function like a business smartphone but for the average consumer, it’s plenty satisfying.  This is especially for those who’d rather text and chat than talk.

LG5550 Review for Bell Mobility

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

[caption id="attachment_11" align="aligncenter" width="184" caption="LG 5550 Cell Phone for Bell Mobility"]LG 5550 Cell Phone for Bell Mobility[/caption]

The LG 5550 for Bell Mobility is a stylish, functional, and no-nonsense phone. For a mobile phone user wanting a basic mobile phone, this compact flip phone is a good value for money, with great performance and durability.

The phone has many user-friendly features. It has a unique styling and its user interface is easy and simple to use. For starters, the voice dial feature is intuitive and eliminates the headache of training your voice so that you can use the feature. The advance technology will first listen to your voice and compare it to each name in address book and then select four best matches for the name you stated. The auto-dial option in LG 5550 is another great feature, especially while driving on hands-free mode. You simply state the number you need and the phone will repeat it and will dial only after you verify.

The LG 5550 introduced many firsts and new innovations to the Bell Mobility offering of phones when it first was released. Surprisingly, many newer phones have not been able to duplicate the rich feature-set offered by this handset.

Key features include:

  • Weighs only 105 gm.
  • This trimode CDMA phone comes with a large 65 thousand color LCD main color display and a unique angled blue OLED outer display that is super-easy to read in dim lighting conditions.
  • The LG 5550 mobile phone has a powerful lithium-ion battery which has a capacity of 150 minutes talk time and a maximum standby of 144 hours.
  • The phone has a phone book capacity of 499 entries; you can save 5 numbers plus an email address for every name.
  • The phone has polyphonic ringtones and vibration mode; you can also have ringer ID. The LG 5550 mobile phone supports custom graphics and custom ringtones.
  • The phone also has USB connectivity. This allows you to connect it to your PC.
  • Browse the mobile Internet using its Openware WAP 2.0 Internet browser (WAP).
  • Large keys make it easy to send text messages. There is also a T9 dictionary.
  • The phone book can be customized and you can have caller groups.
  • The LG 5550 mobile phone has a large easy-to-read display with backlight and status icons.
  • Bell’s 5550 includes features like calculator, voice command, voice memo game download, a headset jack and speaker phones. The phone also has mute mode, call-waiting facility, caller ID and speed dialing.
  • It has messaging, voice mail, paging, a 19-key keypad, a menu-driven interface, “any key” answer along with speed dialing, notepad and world clock.
  • The phone comes with English and French language options.
  • The LG 5550 shows the call history for outgoing calls, incoming calls and missed calls. It also gives you the options of erasing calls, call timer, last call, home calls and roaming calls.
  • The LG 5550 mobile phone has a loud and clear speaker phone. The voice quality of the phone is very good and voice features are unmatched by other phones of this level.
  • The voice activated command helps dial the number even while you are driving.
  • The keyboard layout and menu are also very good.
  • The MP3 ringtones play at a high quality.
  • The data cable capability is another plus point in this phone.

Here are some drawbacks of the LG 5550 for Bell Mobility:

  • The internal screen is not as vibrant as newer smartphones but at its current pricing many users will overlook this point.
  • Sorry, no camera or video capturing on this phone.

Overall, the LG 5550 for Bell Mobility is highly recommended for anyone who is looking for a simple but stylish, cool and dependable phone that does not need a camera.
