Two-way video calling, the olympics on your phone, new rumoured phone… Bell Mobility in the news!

Bell Mobility in the news!

Bell Mobility in the news!

Bell Mobility in the News—Week ending Feb 26, 2010

  1. iHound before you lose your smartphone - Bell Mobility and most other service providers recommend you call them right away if you lose your smartphone so they can block further use. That way, thieves won’t be able to run up charges on your account. You should also consider installing a digital tracker such as iHound on your phone. When activated, this tracker uses the GPS and Wi-Fi built into the device to zero in on its location and sound an alarm.(from Globe and Mail - D. Bascaramurty http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/technology/personal-tech/three-ways-to-track-your-lost-smartphone/article1476324/)
  2. Two-Way mobile video calling - Bell Mobility, Rogers and TELUS have announced the successful completion of two-way mobile video calling trials between carriers. Currently, video calling is possible but only between customers who use the same carrier network and compatible handsets. When inter-carrier video calling becomes available, customers of different networks will be able to create a “see-what-I-can-see” connection with each other. They will be able to show each other pictures of an item they want to buy or a special family occasion. (CNW Group – Rogers Group – at http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/February2010/24/c4125.html)
  3. Did you watch the olympics on your phone? - Mobile TV was a hit during the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, according to Bell Mobility, with a 198% increase in mobile viewership of live TV during the Games. Bell also reports an increase in video-on-demand and live radio games, largely due to Bell’s Olympic offerings. Bell has successfully used the Olympic Games as an opportunity to educate the market and give new users a chance to familiarize themselves with the relatively new mobile TV technology. (Mobilesyrup — At http://mobilesyrup.com/2010/02/24/bell-sees-dramatic-increase-in-mobile-tv-since-beijing-olympics/)
  4. New bell phone rumoured - Word has it that loyal Samsung customers will have a new mobile phone option starting March 1. The Samsung R330, which will be available through Bell Mobility, comes with a 1.3-megapixel camera, a 2.5-mm headset and large one-touch dial keys. Simple and stylish, the R330 phone can be purchased with or without a contract. (In 2/25/10 alerts - At Mobiletor.com at http://www.mobiletor.com/2010/02/24/samsung-r330-to-arrive-on-bell-mobility/
  5. BlackBerry users can see their voicemail - Tired of managing your voicemails by calling into your voicemail box? Bell Mobility customers in Canada with BlackBerry® smartphones will be able to manage their voicemails visually using Visual Voicemail. With this new application, once voicemail messages have been received on the handset, they can be arranged in order of priority, accessed even in places where there’s no wireless coverage, reviewed, and deleted or answered by texting or calling. The charge for Visual Voicemail service is $8 per month. More information is available at bell.ca/visualvoicemail. ( http://satellite.tmcnet.com/news/2010/02/18/4630975.htm)
